Prior to this shelter opening, we found we were housing mothers with their children in our single women’s facility or turning away families due to lack of space. Housing in our single women’s facility was not ideal due to the disruption in their recovery processes that is unavoidable with children around. Plus the need kept growing, so more were getting turned away, we knew we needed to action!
Our facility offers childcare so that mothers have the same opportunities to participate in our long-term programming just like our other residents. By providing an environment that allows mothers to grow and heal with their children and providing a stable place for children as well, City Mission assists these families by improving their chances of a successful transition to independence.
